This is a very nice stoneware bowl made in Vietnam probably around the 15th c - 16th c although it may be a little earlier. The decoration is in underglaze blue which looks black in places. There is a scrolling border on the outside and inner rim and a floral design to the centre. It may well have been recovered from a shipwreck but I can't be certain.

The condition is good but as you can see it has suffered some production faults such as a glaze run to the interior which has left some streaks and a pool in the centre partially obscuring the decoration. The glaze, which has not covered the bowl entirely, is beautifully crackled but has flaked in a few places, and some areas are stained. There is a rough area on the side of the foot, under the glaze, which is fingertip sized and possibly caused by where it was held when dipped in the glaze; an adjacent indentation might be the impression of the finger nail. please let me know if you need more photos. The interior of the base has been coated in a brown slip.

Regarding the photos, it was quite hard to catch the colour correctly, it is more of a warm oatmeal colour. The dimensions are variable as this is another piece with slightly undulating rims (it wobbles a little) but approximately, it is at most 6.3 cms high and 14.3 cms in diameter. It weighs 275 g.
